I was seized with a keen desire to see Holmes again... He was pacing the room swiftly, eagerly, his hands clasped behind him.

Information

Jackie Kay & Aidan Moffat - City Reads offers up two incredible talents this month to tie-in with the Carry A Poem campaign.

Since she burst onto the scene with her stunning and award-winning first collection Adoption Papers in 1991, Jackie Kay has consistently delivered work exploring the role and power of language and ideas of identity. Other Lovers, Off Colour, Life Mask, Darling and The Lamplighter are some of her collections and sit alongside an admirable body of work in anthologies, novels, and work for children, stage and television.

Aidan Moffat is a legendary songwriter and musician whose talent has lent gravitas to bands Arab Strap, The Sick Anchors, L. Pierre and, currently, Aidan Moffat and the Best Ofs which released the album How To Get to Heaven From Scotland last year. Moffat’s talent is also on show on I Can Hear Your Heart, an album of poetry and prose from 2007 released under his full name Aidan John Moffat. He’ll be performing a few songs on the night with Kay reading from her work.

A stellar line-up, a stonking night and both will be chatting about the power of words with the chair, writer and musician, Doug Johnstone.
