Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature, in partnership with the National Literacy Trust, is encouraging passengers across Scotland to dedicate just six minutes of their day to reading with a new free digital collection of short fiction.

Research has shown that reading for just six minutes can reduce stress levels by up to 68%. Designed for busy journeys and everyday moments, Six-Minute Reads brings together contemporary fiction by some of Scotland’s most celebrated writers, with every story selected to be enjoyed in around six minutes.

The collection includes contributions from Sir Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, Ann Cleeves, Matt Haig, Sir Alexander McCall Smith, Niamh Ní Mhaoileoin, Mairi Kidd and Andrés N. Ordorica, alongside other famed and emerging voices.

It features Beano Annual 2027, alongside the winning entry from the Six-Minute Reads Flash Fiction Competition by Jasmeen Kanwal.
