Apply now for Residency in Vilnius City of Literature!

The Vilnius City of Literature Creative Residency is a programme dedicated to writers, illustrators and literary translators from all over the world, with a focus on the UNESCO Cities of Literature. The purpose of the residency programme is to provide an opportunity for writers, illustrators, and translators to stay in Vilnius for the month and engage in creative work. All selected participants will have their travel expenses covered, be offered accommodation in Vilnius’ iconic Užupis arts district, and granted a scholarship of 500 Euros.

The Residency Location

The residency is located in the heart of Vilnius, adjacent to the old town in the iconic Užupis arts district, at the UMI (Užupis Arts Incubator) on the shore of the historical Vilnia River, and just 500m away from Vilnius Literary House – the office of the Vilnius UNESCO City of Literature. Residents will be invited to connect with the local community through an organised public event..

*Please note that there are steep stairs in the two-story studio.

Application

Eligible applicants are writers, illustrators, and literary translators from the Lithuanian language, from the UNESCO Cities of Literature or strong connection to one of the Cities. Applicants must send:

• a short motivational letter
• a short biography and bibliography alongside the letter

Selection and Participation

Two residents will be selected for the Vilnius Literary Residency programme in 2025. All applicants will be informed about the selection results by email no later than 15 September. The dates for the residency are 1 - 31 December 2025.
