Scottish poet Morag Anderson will travel to Abuja, Nigeria to attend Hausa International Book Festival (HIBAF) in December

Morag Anderson’s second chapbook, And I Will Make of You a Vowel Sound (Fly on the Wall Press, 2024), won the Aryamati Poetry Prize for Social Change and was nominated for a Sky Arts Award 2025.
Her work is published in Poetry London, Aftershock, Mslexia, Butcher’s Dog, and Black Iris.
“I am thrilled to have been selected. There are many similarities between Hausa culture and my Hebridean heritage. What a joy to unite languages and cultures across countries and borders, encouraging oral traditions to thrive while welcoming modern expressions of art. I can’t wait to experience my first Dandali (ceilidh!).”
Morag will attend Hausa International Book Festival’s closing programme in Abuja, participate in literary exchanges, have opportunities to engage with Nigerian poets and writers, and a collaborative poetry translation workshop with Nigerian poet Hidaya Muhammad Mahmoud.
Our thanks to our partners at Hausa International Book & Arts Festival (HIBAF), Open Arts Development Foundation, and Push the Boat Out, and to funding from the British Council and Creative Scotland.
