The Writer’s Room at The Writers’ Museum

The Writer’s Room is a desk residency at Edinburgh’s Writers’ Museum. Two women writers, selected through a lottery process, are given two months of access to a desk in the heart of the Museum’s collection, as well as a stipend and developmental support from Edinburgh City of Literature.

The selected writers for 2026 are Lucy Ribchester and Shelley Day.

The Writer’s Room is designed to:

  • Give time and space for writing to an Edinburgh writer
  • Bring the Writers’ Museum collection to life
  • Rebalance the lack of representation of women within the collection
  • Inspire new work
